Joey Barton to become Fleetwood Town manager
Joey Barton is set to replace John Sheridan as manager of Fleetwood Town in what will be his first managerial position.
Barton is set to sign a three-year deal with the League One outfit to take charge from 2 June 2018.
Barton is approaching the end of his suspension from football for a betting charge and the role is set to be his first managerial position after completing his coaching badges a couple of years ago.
Sheridan took charge of Fleetwood back in February after replacing Uwe Rosler but is to leave the club at the end of the season.
Speaking to the Fleetwood official website about taking his first managerial position in the sport, Barton said:
I’m very excited by the challenge and the project at Fleetwood Town. It’s a club I’ve known for a long time and a chairman I already have a very good relationship with.
My first job in management was always going to be a big decision for me and I’m delighted with the opportunity ahead, I’m joining a club with big ambitions. I’m looking forward to getting started on June 2.
