Regardless of the riches of the Premier League, there are still bargains to be had in the transfer market. As the January window approaches, attention will begin to turn to the free agent market, with clubs free to speak to potential targets and agree pre-contract deals for players to join in the summer. There are a host of potential bargains that clubs could be looking at once again, showing sometimes you don’t always need to spend big. These are the potential free agents your club could end up signing this summer.
Alphonse Areola - PSG
Alphonse Areola was heavily linked with Chelsea over the summer. The highly-rated Frenchman has failed to nail down a regular starting spot at PSG and could leave for regular first-team minutes elsewhere. At the age of 25, his best years are ahead of him and he could be a major coup for any club in need of a goalkeeper.
Matteo Darmian - Manchester United
Things just have not gone right for the Italian at Manchester United. Once highly rated, he is now in the shadows at Old Trafford and needs to make a move that can get his career back on track.
Diego Godin - Atletico Madrid
Diego Godin is widely regarded as the last of a dying bread of defenders. The Atletico Madrid defender was linked with United in the summer and is still yet to put pen to paper on a new deal in Spain. A potential bargain.
Jan Vertonghen - Tottenham
He may have fallen out of favour at Spurs lately, but the Belgian has a wealth of experience under his belt. Spurs face the prospect of losing both Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in the summer, with the fellow Belgian defender attracting interest from Manchester United.
Filipe Luis - Atletico Madrid
Would the Brazilian defender be willing to give the Premier League another crack? He never got a chance to prove his quality at Chelsea and has impressed during his second stint back at Atletico Madrid.
Aaron Ramsey - Arsenal
Arsenal once again look set to lose one of their key players – for free! The Welshman is set to leave the Gunners either in January or the summer. A host of clubs are already being touted as potential destinations. Everton, Chelsea, United and German champions Bayern have been linked.
Adrien Rabiot - PSG
Another potential bargain that could come from Paris is Adrien Rabiot. Like Areola, Rabiot has struggled to nail down a place in the squad and wants to be playing regularly. Tipped for big things from a young age, Rabiot needs to be playing consistently at his next club to fulfil his potential.
Ander Herrera - Manchester United
Manchester United could also lose Ander Herrera for nothing over the summer. The Spaniard is still yet to agree to terms on a new contract at Old Trafford and a summer exit remains a possibility. He’s been in and out of the team under Mourinho and may fancy a move where game time is more guaranteed.
Arjen Robben - Bayern Munich
Robben is coming towards the end of his time with Bayern after a glittering spell in Germany. The former Real Madrid man remains one of the deadliest wingers in the game and appears to still have plenty left in the tank. He will not be short of big-money offers, but he could be a useful weapon for some.
Anthony Martial - Manchester United
Despite an excellent recent run of form, Martial and Jose Mourinho clearly do not see eye-to-eye. The French winger has failed to hit the right note with the United boss and a move away from Old Trafford looks like it will be the best option for both parties. United may have to consider cashing in during the January window, or the former Monaco ace could be an absolute steal for someone in the summer.
Mario Balotelli - Nice
Mario Balotelli has managed to rediscover some of his best form for Nice in France. After a bumpy patch in his career, he has worked his way back into the Italian national team and appears to have matured since his Manchester City days.
Petr Cech - Arsenal
Cech looks set to leave Arsenal over the summer after falling out of favour. He may not have shown his best form in the latter stages of his career, but he remains a useful signing with a lot to offer both on an off the pitch.
Cesc Fabregas - Chelsea
The Spaniard may be reaching the latter stages of his career, but he could still have a lot to offer to a club. He may not have the legs to play week in, week out, but the experience and the quality on the ball is still there for the former Barcelona man.
Yacine Brahimi - Porto
Yacine Brahimi has been linked with a Premier League move for many years, but no deal has ever materialised. Newcastle, Everton and West Ham have all been previously linked, but Porto have refused to sell. He could finally get his chance in England with his contract in Portugal due to expire this summer.
Daniel Sturridge - Liverpool
The former England international has seemingly worked his way back into Liverpool’s plans, but a summer exit could still be on the cards. After proving his fitness, he may now fancy the chance to try and force his way into a side’s first-team squad.
